Dad BEING PRESENT Is Important In The Lives OF Daughters…

Knock-on effect: Women whose dads were absent during childhood are more likely to be sexually promiscuous, according to a new study

I have been saying for some time that a father being present with his children is important.

It’s even more important with their little girls.  (When I say BE present, that does not just mean to be in the same room.  I mean to be investing in their lives.)

I found this article, and I think it helps prove my point.

‘Girls whose dads are absent during childhood are more likely be sexually promiscuous later in life, according to a new study.’

MEN!  We need you to be DAD’S.  Invest in your kids lives.  Especially your daughters!  Love them.  Take them on dates.  Show them you care.  Show them you want them.  Show them you need them.  Don’t be lazy.  Their very moral fiber depends on it. Don’t say you’re to busy…because you’re not.  The most important thing is that you invest in them.  Show them who Jesus is.

Father & Son Adventure… #FatherUP

I just saw this and I had to re-post part of it.  It’s truly a great story of how a Father has poured out his love for his son’s!  Great stuff!

Sen. Jeff Flake & Sons Amazing 4 Day Survivalist Adventure on a Deserted Island

Sen. Jeff Flake and his two youngest sons took off for a once-in-a-lifetime, four-day trip to a deserted island during the Memorial Day congressional recess.

Flake and his sons set off from Phoenix last Sunday on what would be a 10,400-mile round-trip journey. They flew first to Hawaii and then eventually to Kwajalein Island, a part of the Marshall Islands where the United States still has a lease for missile testing. From there, father and sons hopped on a friend’s fishing boat and traveled 62 miles to Biggarenn, an unoccupied island that Flake estimated was just 55 to 70 acres in size. The fishing boat left them behind.

“Tens of thousands of coconuts littered the island,” Flake said. “You just had to pick up the ones that were still ripe. We ate coconut and crab and fish.”

The Flakes brought along a lobster trap in hopes of capturing meatier fare, but lost it within the first few hours after it was attacked by a shark. They also carried two pumps to desalinate ocean water, requiring them to spend hours each night pumping for just a few gallons.

“For a dad it was a wonderful thing. No video games around, no television, no distractions, no texting,” Flake recalled. “To just sit there and pump water, that was my favorite time, frankly, on the island. Just talking. Just to have no distractions…..”

Never, EVER Forget June 6, 1944…

Today is a day that America’s finest landed and turned the tide of WWII

June 6, 1944, 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. General Dwight D. Eisenhower called the operation a crusade in which “we will accept nothing less than full victory.” More than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end on June 6, the Allies gained a foot- hold in Normandy. The D-Day cost was high -more than 9,000 Allied Soldiers were killed or wounded — but more than 100,000 Soldiers began the march across Europe to defeat Hitler.

False Sense of Security…

I’m pleading with folks today…I woke up with this verse on my heart.

‘Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!’ -2 Cor 13:5

I grew up in the church.

My dad is a pastor.

I have been around the church world my entire life.

I went to camp, I went to youth retreats, I walked to the front of a church, I prayed prayers…I did all that stuff.

It was not until the summer of 1998 that it truly connected, and made sense.  The pastor  was preaching out of this text:

‘Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!’ -2 Cor 13:5

‘TEST YOURSELF.’

Then he went to the following text….

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness. – Matt 23:27

Jesus was talking to ‘Christian’ people in this text.  Jesus was talking to me.

I had the mental argument/fight in my head.

You’re a good dude.  You don’t need to be worried about this. You’re good enough.

Then the Holy Spirit would say ‘Caleb…you need to repent, you need JESUS!’

I came to realize that I was full of dead men’s bones…sure I LOOKED like I had it figured out…but I was only fooling myself and the people around me. The truth was  I. was. lost.

I. WAS. Dead.

See what we have done in our country is we’ve fooled folks into believing that if they they go to church a few time when they were kids, (maybe even while they are adults) and say a prayer that this will secure them a spot in heaven.  That is a false sense of security.

David Platt says…

According to research almost 4 out of every 5 Americans identify themselves as Christians…But in this group of self proclaimed Christians, less than half of them are involved in church on a weekly basis. Less than half of them believe the Bible is true. An overwhelming majority of them don’t have a biblical view of the world around them. So researchers went even deeper then to distinguish men and women who are ‘born again Christians,’ as if there’s any other kind of Christian. But these are people who say they’ve made a personal commitment to Jesus, they believe they’ll go to heaven, because they’ve accepted Jesus as their savior.

And according to research nearly half of Americans are ‘born again Christians.’ But you look at this group of ‘born again Christians’ and researchers found that their beliefs and lifestyles and virtually indistinguishable from the world around them. Many ‘born again Christians’ believe their works can earn them a place in heaven. Others think that Christians and Muslims worship the same god. Some believe that Jesus sinned while He was on Earth. And an ever increasing number of ‘born again Christians‘ just describe themselves as marginally committed to Jesus.

So people you can use data like this to conclude that Christians are really not that different from the rest of the world. But I don’t think that interpretation of that research is accurate. I think the one thing that’s abundantly clear from those statistics is that there are a whole lot of people in our country who think that they are Christians, but they are not. There are scores of people—here and around the world who culturally distinguish themselves as Christians and biblically are not followers of Christ.”

This was me.

I was that guy who thought because my dad and mom were leaders in the church I was golden.  I thought I was totally fine.  I thought because I was involved in a youth group I was OK.  I thought because I knew some Bible verses that I was going to make it.  I thought because I had my name on a Sunday school role that I was in the clear.  But in reality I was in deep weeds.  I was a hell-bound religious man.

God’s Word revealed my brokenness and sinfulness.  It revealed my game playing.  It revealed my attempt to justify myself…and when I truly examined myself…I realized I needed a savior.  I needed to be brought to life.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness. – Matt 23:27

Once I realized  I was dead…I found comfort in this… (Romans 5:6-11 )

I think alot of people in church are doing this very thing.  They look like they have it figured out.  They talk like they have it figured out.  But in reality they are only fooling themselves.

Jesus said to examine ourselves. Ask yourself these questions:

Are you MORE in love with Jesus today than you were a year ago?

Are you more committed to the cause of the Gospel of Jesus Christ than you were 5 years ago?

Does sin bother you, I’m not talking about OTHER people’s sin.  I’m talking about YOUR sin. Does it bother you?

If you answer NO to any of those questions above I think you might want to look at Luke 14:25-35

I would much rather have someone who wrestled with this idea, and know for certain that they were saved…than to walk through life in a fog of false security due to their accomplishments  and find out that hell was now their home.

God has called us to examine ourselves.  Please do that today!

Jesus loves you, and he want you!  All you need to do is REPENT.  God promises he will forgive you!

Time is SHORT!

His Smile…

Sometimes there are ads that just capture something cool.
I think this is one of them.

We live in a culture that vilifies fathers, and men. I like it when I see companies and ads that promote good fathers, and good men. I think this is a good sample of that.

As Father’s Day is fast approaching…may we as men be about the business of being good dad’s!

I think of my own father…and his impact on my life. It’s huge. His smile is something that I will always cherish. His Godly leadership is something that will always cause me to press upward in my own journey to and with JESUS.

Men…we need good dads!

Let’s do this! Cherish your dad’s smile this year!

Mark Of The Beast Pt. 2???

I posted a blog along these lines a couple years ago…there is an update now… could this be the mark of the beast???

Motorola has announced it is looking at alternatives to traditional passwords in a bid to make logging into online sites, or accessing mobile phones, more secure.

Among the ideas discussed at the D11 conference in California on Wednesday were electronic tattoos and authentication pills that people swallow.

The tattoos, developed by Massachusetts-based engineering firm MC10, contain flexible electronic circuits that are attached to the wearer’s skin using a rubber stamp.

The tattoos, called Biostamps, were designed for medical purposes to track a patient’s health, but Motorola thinks the technology can be used for authentication purposes, as an alternative to traditional passwords

I firmly believe that we are the edge of seeing Jesus return.  The evidence is all around us.  We need to be about the mission of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone we know.

19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”  - Matthew 28:19-20

What I Learned From Fishing Crawdads.

The other day my kids wanted to go crawdad fishing, and it was raining like a boss outside.

I was VERY reluctant.  I did not want to get soaked.

“DADDY, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!”

I said ‘OK…but if it starts coming down we’re coming home.’

‘YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!’ from all four children!

We pulled up, and it was done raining…we got out, and they fished for over an hour.

That hour put ‘awesome dad points’ in the bank!  All it took was me investing time in my kids lives.

Soon they won’t want to roll around in a creek.

Soon they will be too cool to hang out with daddy.

Soon they will look at activies like this as stupid and boring.

NOW is when you take advantage of this time.

Because it will be gone very soon!

Be present with them in the here and now!
